Veteran

Who is a US Veteran?

The term veteran has been derived from the Latin word veterans which mean old or aged. At present, the term is used to describe a person who has actively served in the military and is serving no more. It does not matter whether he served in naval, ground forces, or air services. Moreover, it also does not matter whether the person served during wartime or didn’t get a chance to take part in the war.But there are some conditions for being discharged to be called a veteran. Either the person got an injury or disease that unqualified him to continue his services or he was discharged from the service under honorable conditions. For this type of peacetime discharge, the service period should be at least 180 days. In wartime, the service period needs to be at least 90 days, but the conditions remain the same. The person can be discharged by either getting injured or can be discharged after returning from the war fit and healthy under honorable conditions. Another point to be noted is that, if any of the military personnel dies during his or her service (either during wartime or peacetime) would be considered us veterans.
